Image Knowing and doing the will of God is the greatest challenge for every Bible believer especially now that we know our Lord and Savior may come at any given time. The record in the Old Testament regarding the life of the Israelites during the time of Moses is perhaps the greatest lesson for us in our relationship with our Father in heaven. Not to be overstated that “Obedience” no matter how simple as it may sound, is no small matter to God.

We thank God for the Bible, for without it we are like a ship cruising to no where. Let us look at one of the letters of Apostle Paul to the saints at Colosse. At first glance it is a complete instruction for every child of God.

In Colossians 3:1-4, the apostle Paul instructs us to “seek those things that are above”, which are heavenly. It confirms here that Heaven is a complete opposite of Earth. Spiritual discernment is not a “special gift." If we are truly saved the Holy Spirit which is in us teaches us all things pertaining God. Unless other “spirits” are in our hearts. When Jesus shall appear with us in glory, happy are they that love him.

In Colossians 3:5-9 like his letter in Ephesians 4 and Romans 8, we are told to “mortify” and “put off” concerning our former conversation which when were in our old self is “devilish and fleshy." The sin of covetousness is clearly defined in verse 5 as idolatry. Idols are not only “images” but everything that sets us apart from God. By these we can determine between those who are truly saved and those who are professing Christians only.

In Colossians 3:10-17, the apostle reminds us to put on the “new man” which is Jesus Christ. All in Him and by Him, our only way to holiness that we cannot get from any other thing. The words and wisdom of Christ in his Book must dwell in us, by which our relationship to him is perfected. The love of God which is “charity”, the greatest trait of all.

In verses 18 to 25, Paul plainly states the instructions for the husbands, wives, children, and every servant. There is great reward for the faithful, but shame for the wicked servant. It is a free country as they say it, but obedience to our Father in heaven by Jesus Christ is the only and perfect way to pass the mark of heaven.
