Page 1 of 2 The Filipino youth is the hope of the fatherland. So declared the Philippine national hero Dr. Jose Rizal, in one of his last writings before his execution in December 1896. Though spoken a century ago, it still is as true today as it was back then. Bible Baptist Church in Cebu City believes in its young people. That is why its vibrant, forward-looking youth ministry, the Katipunan Youth Alive (KAYA), led by its Youth Director, Pastor Ruben “Jun” Lumagbas, has for the past 27 years impacted the lives of young people all over the country, as well as outside our borders. The KAYA ministry gathers young people from around Metro Cebu every Sunday afternoon for two and half-hours of not only fun and games, but serious discussions and lessons focusing on important life principles. These principles are presented in different multimedia approaches appealing to the senses and minds of young people. The KAYA ministry not only puts an emphasis on its programs, but stresses the importance of personal and individual care as well. An average of 500 young people (all between the ages of 11 to 25) attends the weekly youth meetings. Divided into eight groups, these young people are looked after by eight Youth Leaders (1 main leader and 7 assistants), making up the KAYA Team. The Youth Leaders come from various backgrounds and experiences, allowing them to relate and minister to the diverse needs of the members in their groups. |
